NAVAJO CHIEFTAIN SERVICE MANUAL
11-112. TROUBLESHOOTING PROCEDURE. When troubleshootingthesolid statedimmerassembly, it
must first be determined if the trouble is a defective dimmer assembly, or a shorted or open connection in the
wiring for the unit. Verify that the proper voltage exists at the circuit breaker by turning on the map light. If
the map light is working, there should be voltage at the connector to the dimmer assembly. Voltage at dimmer
assembly connector E308 (Serial Nos. 31-7305001 to 31-7852171) may be checked by removing the overhead
panel to gain access to the connector. To check voltage at dimmer assembly connector E304 (Serial Nos.
31-7952001 and up) gain access to dimmer assembly as described in removal of solid state dimmer and measure
voltage at connector. If voltage is present the solid state dimmer assembly may be defective. Prior to replacing
the solid state dimmer assembly with another unit, ring out the rest of the wiring system for a possible short.
If the wiring is not shorted or opened, replace the solid state dimmer assembly.
11-113. LOCATION OF SOLID STATE DIMMER. In the standard aircraft, there is only one solid state
dimmer assembly. The dimmer assembly is located behind the overhead panel with the potentiometer pro-
jecting through the royalite panel on aircraft with Serial Nos. 31-7305001 to 31-7852171. On aircraft with
Serial Nos. 31-7952001 and up, the dimmer assembly is located on the forward side of the bulkhead at Sta.
57.00 and W.L. 7.75 on the right side of the aircraft.
11-114. REMOVAL OF SOLID STATE DIMMER. (Serial Nos. 31-7305001 to 31-7352171.) The fol-
