Brake Adjustment, Conditioning, and Lining Tolerances

(1) No adjustment of the brake lining clearance is necessary as they are self-adjusting. Inspection
of the lining is necessary, and it may be inspected visually while installed on the airplane.
NOTE: The linings are riveted non-asbestos organic material and should be replaced if the
thickness of any one segment becomes worn below 0.100 of an inch or unevenly
worn.
(2) If new replacement brake linings are installed, condition them as follows:
(a) Taxi aircraft for 1500 feet with engine at 1700 RPM while applying sufficient brake pedal
force to limit taxi speed to 5-10 MPH.
(b) Allow brakes to cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
(c) Apply brakes and check for brake effectivity at high static throttle. If brakes hold,
conditioning is complete.
(d) If brakes cannot hold aircraft during static run up, allow brakes to completely cool and
repeat steps (a), (b), and (c).
