e. Unwrap the trim cable and remove the cable and lock pin from the drum. (If one end of the cable has
been marked to facilitate hook-up of the cable ends, note this location in relation to the drum when
installing a new cable on the drum.)
f. Check the condition of the bushings in the housing bracket for excess wear.
g. Tb install and wrap the trim cable on the forward trim drums (located beneath the control pedestal) or
the aileron trim drum:
1. Locate the center of the cable.
2. Insert the cable into the cable slot in the trim drum. Insure that the center of the cable is in line
with the center of the cable slot Position cable ends even before wrapping. Install the cable lockpin.
3. Hold the drum with its base down. Wrap the cable that leads from the base end of the drum nine
and one-quarter turns in a counterclockwise direction up towards the center of the drum, Wrap
the cable that leads from the upper end of the drum nine and one-quarter turns in a clockwise
direction down towards the center of the drum. Insert the drum in the housing bracket, position
the drum and route the cables from the assembly as shown in Figure 5-16. Install the screw and
screw stop on the drum shaft and secure with the roll pin screws.
h. To install and wrap the trim cable on the rudder trim drum:
1. Insert the cable into the slot in the trim drum.
2. Position cable ends even before wrapping.
3. Insert the cable lock pin.
4. Hold the drum with the counterbored end down. Wrap the one cable end in a counterclockwise
direction nine and one-quarter turns up towards the center of the drum. Wrap the other cable end
in a clockwise direction nine and one-quarter turns down towards the center of the drum. Insert
the drum in the housing bracket, position the drum and route the cables from the assembly as
shown in Figure 5-16. Install the screw and screw stop on the drum shaft and secure with the roll pin screws.
i.
To install and wrap the trim cable on the elevator trim drum (Refer to Figure 5-6):
1. Lay out cable and measure 25 3/16 inch (64 centimeters) difference between cable ends. Holding
cable in that position go to other end of cable and find center of cable loop.
Installation hint: When the layout from item 1 above is determined, the center point of the loop
end obtained should be marked with a dot of paint. From this dot, paint (a different color than
the dot) the longer cable approximately two feet to ease identification of wrapping.
2. Install cable in drum slot with painted dot in center of drum. Insert pin with dot remaining in center of drum.
3. With drum end facing you (short cable side), wrap eight and one-half turns counterclockwise.
4. With opposite end of drum facing you (long cable side), wrap nine and one-half turns counterclockwise.
CAUTION: Inspect drum and screw assembly for suitability for installation. Replace if required.
5. Lightly lubricate ends of drum (with Dow Corning DC-4/MIL-S-8660 or equivalent) where it
meets the housing, and insert drum into housing with cable positions as shown in Figure 5-6.
6. Lightly lubricate screw (with Dow Coming DC-4/MIL-S-8660 or equivalent) and insert screw
into drum.
7. Install roll pin screws. (Be careful not to overtighten screws to prevent binding.)
8. Adjust trim screw to .14 inch as shown in Figure 5-6.

Block the trim cables (refer to Figure 5-10) in the center position to keep them from loosening.

5-60. REMOVAL OF FLAP ACTUATOR MOTOR. (Refer to Figure 5-18.)
a. Remove the center floor panel located in the main cabin area. The flap actuator motor (5) is located
on the forward side of the fuselage bulkhead.
b. Disconnect the electrical leads from the motor.
