[11] TROUBLESHOOTING

1. Self diagnostic message

A. Outline
In case of trouble in the printer or when any consumable part is
exhausted, the printer detects and analyzes it and the operation
panel LCD and LED display the status to warn the user and the
serviceman.
Basically, the LED indicates the kind of errors, and the LCD the
content.
When the printer detects any trouble, the power line of the loads is
immediately turned off to assure safety and to minimize the possible
damages of the printer.
The self diagnostics messages are classified into two; the service call
messages and the operator call messages.
[Operator call messages]
The operator call messages relate to the consumable parts and paper
jams.
[Service call messages]
The service call messages indicates errors which require to be
repaired by a serviceman.
The self diagnostics operations and messages are also dependent on
the operation modes of the printer.
The operation modes are classified into two; the normal print mode
and the diagnostics mode. The process of data (commands,
statuses) related to self diagnostics differs in different modes.
[Normal print mode]
In the normal print mode, command data are sent from the ICU to
check the printer status.
While the PCU detects the printer condition and sends the status data
(the detection result) to the ICU.
While on the printer side, the PCU displays the status according to
the data from the ICU.
[Diagnostics mode]
In the diagnostics mode, the PCU detects the printer condition and
displays the status directly on the printer display.
The ICU does not operate, either. The operation is performed only by
the PCU.
