SHARP SERVICE MANUAL JX8200SM [5] INSTALLATION
(2) Installation of Memory and Interface Boards
Before installing any additional memory, the LocalTalk/RS-232C in-
terface board, the Ethernet interface board, the PostScript board, or
the Flash memory board, be sure to read the "Caution" given below.
CAUTION:
Do not touch directly with your hands any of the
chips or pins on the controller boards, memory
boards, or optional PostScript, flash memory, and
interface boards. The static electricity on your hands
may damage the components.
Before beginning operations, touch a grounded metal
component to discharge any static electricity.
In order to protect the memory (SIMMs) and optional
PostScript, flash memory, or interface boards, do not
remove them from their anti-static protective bags
until you are ready to install them.
Before beginning operations, turn off the printer, un-
plug the power cord, and disconnect any interface
cables.
Do not touch any surfaces that are likely to generate
static electricity (monitor screen, etc.).
Be careful not to drop the controller board, memory
boards, or optional PostScript, flash memory, or in-
terface boards or subject them to any shocks.
Do not set any components on a carpet or other area
which is likely to have a lot of static electricity.
A. Removing the Controller Board
1) Turn off the printer and remove all cables from the back of the
printer including the power cable and computer interface cable.
2) Locate the two retaining screws that attach the controller board at
the back of the printer and turn the screws in the direction of the
arrows shown.
3) Carefully slide out the controller board and set it down on a clean,
flat table.
B. Installation of Memory (SIMM)
1) Remove the controller board from the printer.
2) Remove the new SIMM from its packaging.
3) Install the SIMM by inserting it diagonally, with the chips facing
downward, into its slot until its bottom is seated and then rotating
it upright until it clicks into place.
NOTE: To remove a SIMM, first bend the small clips holding each
edge to allow the SIMM to fall down to a diagonal position.
Then pull it out and store it in the anti-static bag that it came
in for future use.
C. Installation of the PostScript and Flash Memory
Boards
1) Remove the controller board from the printer.
2) Remove the board from its packaging.
3) Install the board by firmly, but gently, pressing the board into its
connector on the controller board.
