INSTALLATION

NOTE
SCL/SCM Seres drves are ntended for ncluson wthn other equpment, by
professonal electrcal nstallers accordng to EN 61000-3-2 . They are not ntended
for stand-alone operaton .
WARNING!
Drves must not be nstalled where subjected to adverse envronmental condtons
such as: combustble, oly, or hazardous vapors or dust; excessve mosture or
drt; vbraton; excessve ambent temperatures . Consult AC Technology for more
nformaton on the sutablty of a drve to a partcular envronment .
SCL/SCM models are sutable for UL Polluton Degree 2 envronment only, and MUST be
nstalled n an electrcal enclosure that wll provde complete mechancal protecton and wll
mantan the nternal temperature wthn the drve's ambent operatng temperature ratng .
All drve models MUST be mounted n a vertcal poston for proper heatsnk coolng .
Mantan a mnmum spacng around the drve of at least 1 nch (25 mm) on each sde and
2 nches (50 mm) on the top and bottom for unts up to 5 Hp (4 kW), and 2 nches (50 mm)
on each sde and 4 nches (100 mm) on the top and bottom for larger unts . Allow more
spacng f the drve s mounted next to other heat-producng equpment . Do not mount
drves above other drves or heat producng equpment . Fans or blowers should be used
to nsure proper coolng n tght quarters .
In order to properly sze an enclosure, the heat generated by the drve(s) must be known .
Refer to the HEAT LOSS column n Secton 5 .0, SCL/SCM RATINGS . An enclosure
manufacturer can then determne the requred enclosure sze based on the total heat
generated nsde the enclosure (from the drve(s) and other heat sources), the maxmum
allowable temperature nsde the enclosure, the maxmum ambent temperature outsde
the enclosure, and the enclosure propertes .
The SCL/SCM Seres s UL approved for sold state motor overload protecton . Therefore,
a separate thermal overload relay s not requred for sngle motor applcatons .
6.1
Installation After a Long Period of Storage
STOP!
Severe damage to the drve can result f t s operated after a long perod of storage
or nactvty wthout reformng the DC bus capactors!
If nput power has not been appled to the drve for a perod of tme exceedng three years
(due to storage, etc), the electrolytc DC bus capactors wthn the drve can change
nternally, resultng n excessve leakage current . Ths can result n premature falure of
the capactors f the drve s operated after such a long perod of nactvty or storage .
In order to reform the capactors and prepare the drve for operaton after a long perod of
nactvty, apply nput power to the drve for 8 hours pror to actually operatng the motor .
