CYLINDER HEADNALVES
VALVE SPRING FREE LENGTH
Measure the free length of the inner and outer valve
springs.
SERVICE LIMITS:
INNER SPRING:
35.5 mm (1.40 in)
OUTER SPRING:
40 .2 mm (1.58
in)
Replace them if they are shorter than the service
limit.
VALVE STEM·TO·GUIDE CLEARANCE
Inspect each valve for bending, burning, scratches
or abnormal stem wear.
Check valve movement in the gu ide. Measure and
record each valve stem 0.0 .
SERVICE LIMITS:
IN. 4.97 mm (0.195 in)

NOTE:
Ream the guides to remove any carbon build ­
up before checking clearance.
. Measure and record each valve guide J.D. using a
ball gauge or inside micrometer.
SERVICE LIMIT:
IN . 5.04 mm (0.198 in)
EX. 5.04 mm (0.198 in)
Subtract each valve stem 0.0. from the correspond ­
ing guide J.D. to obtain the stem to guide clearance.
SERVICE LIMITS:
IN. 0.07 mm (0.003 in)

If the stem-to-guide clearance exceeds the service
limits, determine if a new guide w ith standard di­
mensions would bring the clearance within toler ­
ance . If so , replace any guides as necessary and ream
to fit.
If the stem-to-gu ide clearance exceeds the service
limits with new guides, replace the valves and
guides.
NOTE:
Reface the valve seats whenever the valve
guides are replaced (page 6-14).
