6. Managing Access to the Printer

This chapter describes how to prevent unauthorized access to and modification of the printer's settings.

Preventing Changes to Printer Settings

The administrator type determines which printer settings can be modified. Users cannot change the
administrator settings.
Register the administrators before using the printer. For instructions on registering the administrator, see
p.21 "About Administrator Authentication".
Type of Administrator
Register the administrator on the printer, and then authenticate the administrator using the
administrator's login user name and password. Administrator type determines which printer settings
can be modified. The following administrator types are available:
• User Administrator
For a list of settings that the user administrator can specify, see p.145 "User Administrator
Settings".
• Machine Administrator
For a list of settings that the machine administrator can specify, see p.146 "Machine
Administrator Settings".
• Network Administrator
For a list of settings that the network administrator can specify, see p.150 "Network Administrator
Settings".
• File Administrator
For a list of settings that the file administrator can specify, see p.153 "File Administrator
Settings".
Menu Protect
Use this function to specify permission levels limiting user access to menu settings.
For a list of settings that users can specify according to the Menu Protect level, see p.157 "User
Settings-Control Panel Settings", p.160 "User Settings-Web Image Monitor Settings".
