Predictive Mode

14-4
Alaris® Turbo Temp®: Predictive Mode
CAUTIONS
Do not allow the tip of the predictive temperature probe to
come into contact with a heat source (e.g., hands or fingers)
prior to taking a temperature determination. If this occurs,
allow 5 seconds for the probe tip to cool before proceeding.
Use only Alaris probes and probe covers. The size, shape, and
thermal characteristics of the probe covers can affect the
performance of the instrument. Inaccurate readings or
retention problems may occur unless Alaris probes and probe
covers are used. To avoid cross contamination, use each cover
only once.
Electromagnetic Compatibility: Operating the thermometer
near equipment which radiates high-energy electromagnetic
and radio frequencies (electrosurgical/cauterizing equipment,
portable radios, cellular telephones, etc.) may cause false
alarm conditions. If this happens, reposition the thermometer
away from the source of interference and perform a new
measurement.
If a patient's temperature is below 96.0°F (35.6°C), the unit will
automatically switch from the normal mode into the Monitor
mode within 10 seconds. It will continue to monitor the patient's
temperature until the probe is returned to the probe holster.
In predictive mode, a final temperature is displayed. The sound of the first beep
signals that the temperature determination is complete, and the Monitor
continues beeping for up to 11 beeps or stops when the probe is replaced into
the probe holster. When a predictive mode determination is in progress, the
determination terminates when a final value is achieved, when the probe is
inserted back into the probe holster, or when a TEMP status alarm is issued.
During a predictive temperature determination, the temperature display
provides a progress meter. In the vital signs area, four arrows forming a "chase
sequence" indicate a predictive temperature determination is in progress. The
"chase sequence" will stop and restart with loss and recovery of tissue contact.
When a predictive determination ends in a final value, the time since the
determination completed is displayed in the vital signs area in the format of last:
xxx min where xxx is the number of minutes since the determination completed.
The final temperature value remains in the vital signs area until a new
determination begins or until 120 minutes have lapsed. After that time, dashes
replace the old determination value, and last:xxx is no longer displayed.
