MASIMO SET® SpO2: Troubleshooting
This section discusses potential difficulties and suggestions for resolving them. If
the difficulty persists, contact a qualified service person or your local
representative. The Dash 2500 Patient Monitor Service Manual (PN 2042481-001),
which is for use by qualified service personnel, provides additional
troubleshooting information.
PROBLEM: The signal strength symbol tracks a pulse, but no oxygen saturation
or pulse rate values appear on the screen.
CAUSE:
Excessive patient motion may be making it impossible for the SpO
parameter to find a pulse pattern.
The sensor may be damaged.
The patient's perfusion may be too low to allow the SpO
measure saturation and pulse rate.
SOLUTION:
Check the patient.
If possible, keep the patient still; check whether the sensor is applied
securely and properly and replace it if necessary; move the sensor to a
new site; use a sensor that tolerates more motion.
Replace the sensor.
PROBLEM: The SpO
value or the pulse rate changes rapidly; the signal strength
2
symbol is erratic.
CAUSE:
Excessive patient motion may be making it impossible for the SpO
parameter to find a pulse pattern.
An electrosurgical unit (ESU) may be interfering with performance.
SOLUTION:
Check the patient.
If possible, keep the patient still; check whether the sensor is applied
securely and properly and replace it if necessary; move the sensor to a
new site; use a sensor that tolerates more motion.
If an ESU is interfering:
1.
Move the SpO
2.
Plug the Monitor and the ESU into different AC circuits.
3.
Move the ESU ground pad as close to the surgical site as possible.
4.
The sensor may be damp or may need to be replaced with a new
sensor.
5.
If using a sensor extension cable, remove it and connect the
sensor directly to the SpO
Dash 2500 Patient Monitor
cable as far from the ESU as possible.
