CHAPTER 3 INSTALLATION

2.19 Troubleshooting the Network

If the connection to the network is not correct, suspect the following causes, and perform
the steps shown to correct the fault:
Step
1
Checking the Connection of the Network Cable
1) Check to find out if the network cable is correctly connected to the network PCB.
• If yes, go to 18.2.
• If no, correct the connection, and make a check once again using the remote host
address.
2
Making a Check with a Loop-Back Address
A loop-back address returns before reaching the network PCB; executing PING us-
ing it will enable a check on the TCP/IP settings of the machine.
1) Enter the loop-back address (127.0.09.1) for PING.
• If 'NG' is indicated, check the TCP/IP setting of the machine, and execute PING
once again.
• If 'OK' is indicated, go to 18.3.
3
Making a Check Using the Local Address
The local host address is the address of the machine, and executing PING using it
will enable a check on the network PCB, since the address will return after reaching
the network PCB.
1) Enter the IP address of the machine for PING.
• If 'NG' is indicated, make the following check/correction, and execute PING once
again.
a. If the IP address of the machine is faulty, check the setting of the IP address
of the machine and check with the system administrator to find out if the IP
address is a valid one.
b. If the connection of the network PCB is faulty, check the connection of the
connector of the network PCB.
c. If the network PCB is faulty, replace the network PCB.
• If 'OK
is indicated, suspect a fault in the user's network environment. Report the circum-
stances to the system administrator for appropriate action.
