Obstacle clearances for take-off
Obstacle clearance for take-off requires that no obstacles appear in a zone between a safety
angle of 8º and the launch angle over a distance of 500 m from the take-off location, and below
the safety angle over a distance of 100 m (this is typically called the Ground Safety Zone
(GSZ)).
This zone extends over an area between the launch direction and an offset of 45º to the right
and 45º to the left.
According to aviation regulation it is mandatory to have an area with a radius of 30 m centered
on the take-off location, clear of any obstacles that are not under the control of the pilot.
