Q4: Some of the drives do not appear in the Disk Array Con-
figuration Utility's main display.
Your drives are not connected properly to the ATA RAID controller.
Check that both the power and ATA cables are connected properly
and that the drives are all properly jumpered. To operate properly
the ATA RAID controller requires that drives be set as Single (if
available on your drive) or Master.
Q5: I am using a Dell Dimension system that locks-up when
booting after a 3ware card is installed. What is going on?
This symptom is caused by a Dell BIOS bug. Basically, this bug
sees the system boot drive as two primary master drives. That
causes the system to hang. Enter the Dell BIOS setup and reload the
BIOS defaults.
Software installation
Q7: The ATA RAID controller was configured without prob-
lems, but the system does not boot.
The problem could be one or more of the following:
• The operating system is installed on a device that is not in your
system's boot order. Use your system's Setup utility to include
the StorSwitch controller in the boot order.
• If your operating system was installed before you configured
your disk arrays, you may have overwritten your operating sys-
tem. Remember that creating or deleting a disk array overwrites
any existing data on the member drives. Reinstall your operating
system.
• If you installed your operating system when you installed the
ATA RAID controller, you may have made a mistake in install-
ing the operating system. Reinstall your operating system.
