Memory Failures

The J5000/J7000 systems use Memory Page Deallocation, a feature that
allows the system to provide information to the operating system about
memory failures. Note that you must be superuser (root) to use the
commands in this section.
HP-UX 10.20 uses Memory Page Deallocation information to map out the
failing memory areas, and continue normal operation. You can use the
command memrpt with the detail switch to obtain information about
the Memory Page Deallocation Table (PDT) as well as single-bit errors
logged by the system. To test this command, type
/usr/sbin/sysdiag
at the shell prompt (#) and press
logtool
and press
. At the LOGTOOL> prompt, type
Enter
memrpt detail
and press
.
Enter
To exit the sysdiag and logtool utilities, use the exit command.
The PDT can also be checked using the pdt command in the Service
menu of the boot console handler. If a failing DIMM is replaced, use the
Service menu pdt clear command to clear out the PDT.
