Chapter 9 – Replacing the Transporter

Required Tools and Materials

You need the following tools and materials to complete this procedure:
#2 Phillips screwdriver
5/32-inch Allen wrench or 5/32-inch T-handle hex key
Headlamp or flashlight (recommended if the rack in which the library is installed
does not provide side access)
New transporter
Note:
After removing the new transporter from its packaging, keep the
packaging for returning the malfunctioning transporter to Spectra
Logic for inspection.

Continuing Backups

Backups are interrupted if the transporter is malfunctioning, because media cannot be
moved to or from drives. Also, backups cannot run during the replacement of the
transporter, since the library must be powered down.
Use your backup software to stop any backups running to the library. Restart any
backup processes after you complete the replacement procedure and run diagnostics
to ensure that the new transporter is operational.

Test the Transporter

Before replacing the transporter, perform the All Motion Basic Tests diagnostic to
confirm that it is malfunctioning. The test takes approximately 10 minutes.
1. Log into the library with superuser or administrator privileges.
2. Select Maintenance > Tools > Diagnostics. The Diagnostics screen displays.
