Using a USB Storage Device
This chapter describes inserting and using a USB storage device to download firmware
updates, save library configuration and trace information, and restore encryption keys.

Before You Begin

A USB storage device can be used for the following:
Transferring firmware to the library for updating the library and its components
Saving the library configuration for future reference
Saving results of traces run on the library and its components
Exporting a BlueScale encryption key for safekeeping
Importing a previously exported BlueScale encryption key

Required Equipment

You need a USB storage device to complete the procedures described in this chapter.
One Spectra Logic 256MB USB storage device is shipped with the library, but most
types of USB storage device work.
Note:
If you are unable to access a USB storage device connected to the
library, remove it and use a different one. Not all USB storage
devices are compatible with the library. If the LCM stops
responding after you insert an incompatible USB storage device,
reboot it as described in Resetting the LCM on page 22.
You can purchase additional 256MB USB storage devices from Spectra Logic by
contacting your sales representative.
