Chapter 6 – Replacing a QIP or Bus Expansion Module
Required Tools and Materials
You must have the following to complete this procedure:
A #2 Phillips screwdriver
A replacement QIP or bus expansion module:
G3 Fibre Channel QIP, encryption capable (F-QIP)
G5 Fibre Channel QIP, encryption capable (F-QIP)
G3 Gigabit Ethernet QIP (E-QIP)
Bus expansion module
Note:
After removing the new QIP or bus expansion module from its
packaging, be sure to keep the packaging for use when returning
the malfunctioning device to Spectra Logic.
Continuing Backups
QIPs
Backups running to drives associated with other QIPs in the library (or partition)
can safely continue during the replacement of the malfunctioning QIP. The only
exception is if the QIP being replaced is an exporting QIP (that is, the QIP provides the
robotic control path for the partition). Removing an exporting QIP removes the control
path to the transporter. If there is only one QIP assigned to a partition, that QIP is the
exporting QIP. Any backup operations that require using the transporter to move
media will fail while the exporting QIP is being replaced.
Note:
If you are replacing the exporting QIP, use your backup software
to stop any backups running to drives that are associated with QIP.
