Test Procedures
TEST PROCEDURE 17 – Neutral Switch (Transmission)
See General Warnings, Section 1, Page 1-2.
The neutral switch is located on the transmission housing.
1.
Disconnect battery. See Disconnecting the Battery – Gasoline/Diesel Vehicles, Section 1, Page 1-3.
2.
Disconnect the two-pin connector between the neutral switch and the wire harness (w143 and w142).
3.
Check for continuity on the switch contacts with the Forward/Reverse handle in the FORWARD position (Figure
12-25, Page 12-30). The multimeter should indicate no continuity.
4.
Check for continuity on the switch contacts with the Forward/Reverse handle in the NEUTRAL position (Figure
12-26, Page 12-31). The multimeter should indicate continuity.
5.
Check for continuity on the switch contacts with the Forward/Reverse handle in the REVERSE position (Figure
12-27, Page 12-31). The multimeter should indicate no continuity.
6.
If any of the continuity readings are incorrect, replace the neutral switch. See Neutral Switch Removal on
page 14-2.
