b. Mount a dial gauge against the lash measure-
ment tool a t the scribed mark (34mm from the
center of the shaft).
c. Hold the
case and rotate the input shaft
gear
back and forth using the special wrench. Read
the gear lash on the dial gauge.
Middle gear case lash:
If lash is not within tolerance, refer to Drive
Shaft Section page 102

ENGINE ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENT
NOTES: 1) All gaskets and seals should be replaced
when an engine is overhauled. All gasket surfaces must
be cleaned. 2) Properly oil all mating engineand trans-
mission parts during assembly. 3) All circlips should
be inspected before assembly. Replace distorted cir-
clips. Always replace cotter pins and piston pin clips
after one use.
A. Shift Cam
Install shift cam, stopper plate, and circlip. Tighten
shift cam locating bolt and bend over the lock tab.
Install and tighten detent assembly.
Shift cam locating bolt torque:
1.3~2.1m-kg (9-15ft-lbs)
Detent assembly torque:
4.0~4.5 m-kg (29~32ft-lbs
B. Transmission
1. Place 2nd gear wheel end of drive axle into
crankcase. Install middle drive gear. Make sure
circlip half is positioned properly.
