5.1.5 "Contour Alignment" Measuring Program

Use the "Contour Alignment" program to align a point cloud. This step allows to compensate for changes
to the orientation and position of the object in different measurements. Therefore, ROIs that are used in
subsequent measuring programs are not affected by the position and orientation changes and can be
used at defined positions relative to the object.
In order to use this program a master measurement has to be processed first (Setup mode). The measur-
ing program calculates encircling contours of the object, from which one contour can be selected for the
subsequent alignment. The selected contour is stored in the measuring program as template contour
then. In measurement mode, the measuring program computes the corresponding contour of the object
and alignes the object and the contour so that the contour matches best with the template contour of the
master measurement.
Proceed as follows:
- Position your master object at the desired target position for the measurement.
- Insert the "Contour Alignment" program. The setup mode of the program is activated automatically
after it has been inserted. You also may activate the setup mode afterwards with the "Setup mode"
check box (see Fig. 5.7)

If applicable, select the input data for the program (see below, section "1" and Chap. 3.16.3).

Now the "Template contour" drop down list contains all available contours. Select the contour
which you want to use for the object alignment. The selected contour is displayed in blue in the
3D-View.

Press the "Apply template contour" button in order to store the selected contour as template con-
tour in the measuring program and to quit the setup mode.
Note: You also may quit the setup mode by deactivating the "Setup mode" check box. By this the se-
lected contour won't be used as template contour but the previous settings will be used.
