Figure 47: ACT configuration to block all distance protection zones in ZMFPDIS using
Unblocking zone 1 and blocking other distance protection zones during power swing
This application refers to a blocking signal to the higher distance protection zones and allows
zone 1 to trip for faults during power swing. By doing this higher distance protection zones detect
and block the transient swing reducing the outage of connected loads from the service. Allowing
zone 1 to operate and clear faults avoids widespread damage of electrical equipment connected to
adjacent transmission lines.

Based on system studies, one can set the operation of power swing detection to either one-out-
of-three or two-out-of-three phase mode. In this example,
•
For one-out-of-three phase mode, REL1PH is set by configuring ON from FXDSIGN function
block
•
connect ZMBURPSB output, PSB_START to input BLKZx (where x = 2,...5, RV and BU) of
ZMFPDIS function block
•
connect ZMBURPSB outputs PSB_STCND, PSB_RELCND to inputs ORCND, RELCNDZ1 of
ZMFPDIS function block
•
adapt PSB and PDIS settings based on the power network and its operating conditions and
set Operation to
•
set
unblocking feature
