control handshaking

data rates of higher-
performance devices.
In serial protocol,
this is a bit added to
a string of code so

of bits in the string is
even or odd.
In serial protocol,
this indicates that the
transmission of a byte
has ended.
In serial protocol, this
is the number of bits
used to represent one
character of data.
