3. Install the claw washer, ring nut, cover,
and water pipe. See steps 4, 5, and 7–9

Installing the shift rod

1. Install the plate to the shift rod. See steps
1 and 2 in "Installing the shift rod" (8-31).
2. Install the shift rod a.

TIP:
Turn the shift rod a counterclockwise 90°,
and then push it down so that the tip a of the
shift rod a fits into the groove in the shift
slider.

Installing the lower unit (X-transom

1. Install the lower unit, trim tab, and propel-

2. Fill the lower unit with gear oil up to the
