7. Place a block of wood between the anti-
cavitation plate and the propeller to
prevent the propeller from turning, and
then tighten the propeller nut m to the
specified torque.
Propeller nut m:
54 N·m (5.4 kgf·m, 39.8 ft·lb)
8. Install a new cotter pin n. NOTICE: Do
not reuse a cotter pin, always replace
it with a new one.

TIP:
If the slots in the propeller nut m are not
aligned with the cotter pin hole, tighten the
propeller nut m until they are aligned.
9. Fill the lower unit with gear oil up to the
proper
level.

• Make sure to disconnect the battery
cables from the battery, and remove the
clip from the engine shut-off switch.
• When installing the lower unit with the
power unit installed, make sure to sus-
pend the outboard motor. Otherwise, the
outboard motor could fall suddenly and
result in severe injuries.
• When loosening or tightening the pro-
peller nut, do not hold the propeller
using your hands.
1. Check that the shift rod is in the N posi-
tion. See steps 1 and 2 in "Installing the
lower unit (X-transom model)" (8-33).
2. Install the lower case stud bolts a, and
then tighten it to the specified torque.

23 N·m (2.3 kgf·m, 17.0 ft·lb)
3. Install the dowels b, rubber seal c, and
extension d, and then install the adapter
e and speedometer hose f.
4. Install the dowels g and lower unit h,
and then tighten the lower case mounting
nuts i and lower case mounting bolts j

NOTICE: Make sure to align the
splines on the lower unit shift rod with
the splines on the upper case shift
rod. Otherwise, the shift rods could be
bent.
