12. After the node is restored, log in as root user on the node where the repair
took place, and then run the df command from the command-line interface
(CLI). The /ftdc file system should now be mounted.
Installing a hot-swap hard disk drive
The following procedure is for a Tier 1 customer replaceable unit (CRU).
Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at
your request, you will be charged for the installation. Service agreements can be
purchased so that you can ask IBM to replace these units.
About this task
Locate the documentation that comes with the hard disk drive and follow those
instructions in addition to the instructions in this topic.
Note the capacity of the drive to be replaced. If the capacity is 600 GB then you
should not replace it with a 500 GB drive.
Attention: To maintain proper system cooling, do not operate the file module for
more than 10 minutes without either a drive or a filler panel installed in each bay.
To install a drive in a hot-swap bay, complete the following procedure.
Procedure
1. Orient the drive the same way as the drive you removed from the bay.
2. Make sure that the tray handle is open.
3. Align the drive assembly with the guide rails in the bay.
4. Gently push the drive assembly into the bay until the drive stops.
5. Push the tray handle to the closed (locked) position.
6. Since both hard disk drives are part of a mirrored array, the array starts to
rebuild on the newly installed disk.
While the array rebuilds, the green hard-disk-drive status LED blinks fast, and
the amber hard-disk-drive status LED blinks slowly.
7. Monitor the rebuild and initialization.
a. Open the management GUI.
b. Select Monitoring > Events.
c. Note the Event time value of the rebuild message so that you can locate
the rebuild status.
8. When the rebuild and initialization are complete, check the hard-disk-drive
status LED to verify that the hard-disk drive is operating correctly.
If the amber hard-disk-drive status LED for a drive is lit continuously, the
drive is faulty and you must replace it. If the green hard-disk-drive activity
LED is flashing, the drive is being accessed.
9. To repair the third hard disk drive (in slot 2) of a management node, open the
RAS menu by clicking Application > Unified RAS Menus.
10. Click Unified RAS Menus > Managment Node Menus > Repair /ftdc (3rd)
Hard Drive.
