Xedge 6640/6645 Chassis Installation

This section describes how to install one or two Xedge 6640 or 6645 chassis in a rack/cabinet.
Follow the procedures in this section to allow adequate space around the chassis in order to install/
remove modules, make cable connections, and provide adequate air flow.
Important Guidelines
One or two Xedge 6640/6645 chassis can be installed in an open rack/cabinet. When two
chassis are installed, you must also install one or two Plenum Kits (GDC P/N 010K374-003).
Proper airflow must be maintained at all times around the Xedge 664X chassis. When installing
two chassis in a single rack/cabinet, allow space above and below each chassis for adequate
ventilation. Recommended configuration is shown in
Do not install power supply modules in the chassis until the chassis is propery mounted in the
rack or cabinet.
A fully loaded chassis weighs approximately 130 pounds; a two-man lift is strongly
recommended. Take all precautions before attempting to move a fully loaded chassis. This
includes disconnecting all cables from the chassis before attempting to move it.
Two Chassis Installation Procedure
1. Allow 7 inches of free air space at the bottom of the rack. Then install the first Xedge 664X
chassis as described in the following procedures:
Front-Mount Installation (19-inch Rack/Cabinet)
Flush-Mount Installation (23-inch Rack/Cabinet)
Mid-Mount Installation (19- or 23-inch Rack/Cabinet)
2. Attach the clip nuts on the rear mounting rails in the third and fourth hole positions above the
installed chassis.
3. Install the first plenum assembly (4RU) from the rear of the rack as shown in
4. Loosen the screws on the rear bracket as needed to position the plenum correctly from front to
back.
5. Attach the front panel of the plenum to the mounting rails and the plenum.
6. Attach the rear brackets to the mounting rails. If you loosened the screws on the rear bracket,
tighten them now.
7. Install second chassis and the second plenum in the same manner. The seond plenum can be
omitted only if there is adequate open air space above the second chassis.
Note
Ensure adequate airflow is provided, keeping in mind that the Xedge 6640/6645 chassis will vent from front
to back. Other Xedge chassis (6602, 6160, and 6280) will vent from left to right.
