Line Interface Modules
ASIO LIM
The standard model of the ASIO LIM is a quad port LIM intended for use
with the CE, ACP, PCx or the PCE slot controller for clear channel circuit
emulation over Ethernet or ATM cell switching. It supports data rates
from 75 bps to 10 Mbps in 1 bps increments.
The ASIO-HSSI model supports higher speed serial interfaces up to
51.82 Mbps and is implemented for DCE applications. All models of the
ASIO provide an oversample feature that minimizes delay. Refer to
Table 1-5
for specific data rates of each controller/LIM combination.
Front Panel Features
The front panel connectors provide easy access to the ports. Each port
supports EIA-530A, EIA-449, ITU-T X.21, ITU-T V.35 and RS-232 via
programmable SCC technology (Smart Cable Connectors).
The front panel LEDs indicate LIM communication status. All LEDs are
controlled by the slot controller software. There are two LED indicators
associated with each port.

When lit, IS indicates that the port is enabled.
•
When lit, LB indicates a loopback test in progress.
Hardware Setup
Cabling
Smart Cable (SCC) capability on ASIO LIMs (032P194-001) at
hardware revision E- and higher.
Jumpers
Jumpers on the ASIO LIM are for factory use only.
Installation
The ASIO LIM occupies a rear panel slot of the switch that is associated
with the corresponding controller. When handling LIMs, always use an
antistatic wrist strap to prevent static discharge damage to the electronic
circuits.
1. Install the LIM into an empty slot at the back panel of the chassis.
2. Insert the edges of the module into the tracks of the slot and slide the
module inward until it stops. (LIMs are "hot-swappable".)
3. Connect the appropriate I/O line(s) to the LIM's front panel input
connectors using the proper cables.
4. Refer to your Xedge Configuration Guide to properly configure the
LIM for your application.

Future models of the ASIO LIM (ASIO-TTL and ASIO-HSSI DTE) will support additional interfaces.
