virtual volume A logical volume in a storage system that has no physical storage space. Fast Snap uses
(V-VOL) V-VOLs as secondary volumes of copy pairs. In Thin Provisioning, Thin Provisioning MF, Smart
Tiers, Smart Tiers MF, Real Time Smart Tier, and Real Time Smart Tier for Mainframe, V-VOLs
are referred to as THP V-VOLs.
VOL, vol volume
volume A logical device (LDEV), or a set of concatenated LDEVs in the case of LUSE, that has been
defined to one or more hosts as a single data storage unit. A mainframe volume is called a
logical volume image (LVI), and an open-systems volume is called a logical unit. (LU).
