Communication quality test
The communication quality test tool tests the connection quality between the computer and the
selected device(s). If packets not answered, or received with errors, there is an indication in the results
log.
In cases where the quality is not 100 percent, it is recommended that the RS-485 cable is to be checked
for existence of proper resistors on both sides and verified to be of shielded and twisted-pair type and
that the cable is designed for RS-485 communication protocol.
An example for a good test result: an average delay of 97msec (very low), no lost packets and no errors
received.
1. Set the number of cycles between 20 to 1000.
2. Select Start Test to begin the testing. The test will cycle through until terminated.
3. Select Stop Test to terminate the operation.
4. Select Show Log to open the results in a Notepad text file.
It is important to test the quality of the communication between the computer running the Rosemount
3DVision Server and the devices after initial setup and first connection.
