Step 1.
Before you begin, read "Safety" on page iii and "Installation guidelines" on page 37.
Step 2.
If the blade server is installed in a BladeCenter unit, remove it (see "Removing the blade server from
the BladeCenter unit" on page 39 for instructions).
Step 3.
Carefully lay the blade server on a flat, static-protective surface, with the cover side up.
Step 4.
Remove the blade server cover, if one is installed (see "Removing the blade server cover" on page
72 for instructions).
Step 5.
Remove the expansion unit:
a.
If the expansion unit has an extraction device, use the extraction device to disengage the
expansion unit from the blade server. These extraction devices can be of several types,
including thumbscrews or levers. See the instructions provided with the expansion unit for
detailed instructions for removing the expansion unit.
b.
If the expansion unit does not have an extraction device, press the blade server cover release
on each side of the blade server and lift the expansion unit from the blade server.
c.
Rotate the expansion unit open; then, lift the expansion unit from the blade server.
Step 6.
If you are instructed to return the expansion unit, remove from it any options that you have installed;
then, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are
supplied to you.

Installing an optional expansion unit

Use these instructions to install an optional expansion unit.
Attention: If a horizontal combination-form-factor (CFFh) expansion card is installed on the blade server
system board, you cannot install an optional expansion unit.
