Step 5.
Use the thermal-grease syringe to place nine uniformly spaced dots of 0.02 ml each on the top of
the microprocessor. The outermost dots must be within approximately 5 mm of the edge of the
microprocessor; this is to ensure uniform distribution of the grease.

Note: If the grease is properly applied, approximately half of the grease will remain in the syringe.

Step 6.
Install the heat sink onto the microprocessor.

For service technician only: removing the system board

Use this information to remove the system board.
Notes:
• When you replace the system board, you must either update the server with the latest firmware or restore
the pre-existing firmware that the customer provides on a diskette or CD image. Make sure that you have
the latest firmware or a copy of the pre-existing firmware before you proceed.
• When you replace the system board, make sure that you remove the Integrated Management Module
Advanced Upgrade and place it on the new system board. For information about the Advanced Upgrade,
see "Using the remote presence and blue-screen capture features" on page 37.
• Before you replace the system board, make sure that you back up any features on demand (FoD) keys that
were enabled. Reactivate any Features on Demand features. Instructions for automating the activation
of features and installing activation keys is in the Features on Demand User's Guide. To download the

To remove the system board, complete the following steps:
Step 1.
Read the safety information that begins on "Safety" on page v, "Handling static-sensitive devices"
on page 102, and "Installation guidelines" on page 100.
Step 2.
Turn off the server and any attached devices.
Step 3.
Turn off the peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords.
