About calibration
Media for calibration
The printer and media family calibration need media.
You can define and see the media for the printer calibration in the Settings Editor.
NOTE
To find the media for printer calibration in the Settings Editor: [Preferences] -> [Print job
defaults] -> [Calibration media].
Media for the printer calibration
• Canon CS-814 81.4 g/m²
• Océ Top Colour FSC 100 g/m²
• Mondi Neusiedler 100 g/m²
• International Paper Hammermill 105 g/m²
When to create a media family
PRISMAsync provides default the coated and uncoated media families. These two media families
ensure a high print quality for a wide range of media.
IMPORTANT
You do not need to create a media family per media size or per media weight.
You must create a new media family for all cases where you need a new output profile:
• When, after calibration, the default output profiles of the default media families do not achieve
the required print quality.
For example when you use media with a glossy pearl surface.
Be aware that it is very difficult to create new output profiles that will increase the print quality.
The default output profiles in the default media families are the result of months of precise
measurements with specific knowledge of the printer and controller.
• When you use device link profiles.
Device link profiles are assigned to a media family.
• For all applications that require a new output profile.
Daily calibration scenarios
You cannot measure the print quality of the output on an absolute scale, because print quality
depends on the expectations you had beforehand. You need to remain aware of the correlation
between calibration procedures and print quality.
IMPORTANT
You are strongly advised to perform a daily printer calibration.
There are two calibration scenarios, each with an increasing effect on the print quality. Choose
the scenario that best fits your print quality demands.
• Perform daily a printer calibration.
• Perform a printer calibration daily, followed by a media family calibration for each media
family.
