Steering Valve Service
Before Disassembly
When disassembling any of the parts, use a clean work
bench. Wash all parts in solvent and dry them with com-
pressed air. DO NOT wipe them dry with a cloth of paper
as lint and dirt may remain. Keep each part separate to
prevent nicks and burrs.
Components of the steering valve are stacked on four
bolts and held in alignment with alignment pins. The
alignment pins are designed to be a slip fit into the com-
ponents. Use the minimum force necessary and maxi-
mum care when separating or assembling the
components.
The steering valve has several components that are of
brazed laminate construction. These components have
plates and parts bonded together permanently to form
an integral component that cannot be disassembled.
Disassemble the steering valve only to the extent shown
in this book.
IMPORTANT: Do not force or abuse closely fitted
parts, or you may damage them.
Components of the steering valve with alignment
grooves, must be assembled so that their alignment
grooves are positioned as illustrated for the valve to
Figure 42
function correctly (Fig. 42).
