Additional Registration Utilities
Check for Practices with no Address Information/Update from
GP Address
This utility will identify and update GP Practices set up on the PC screen which
currently have no address details entered. Although the address fields on the PC screen
are now mandatory, this was not always the case. During the NHS Strategic Tracing
Service (NSTS) pilot, it was found that many HAs have not yet updated these fields
for all their practices.
This utility should be run to ensure that GP Practice address information is held for
every practice on your system. It will only populate the address if it is blank, and will
not overwrite any information that you have already entered. This utility allows you to
ensure that all your GP Practice address information is up-to-date without having to
update each address manually.
Information from running this utility will also be displayed on-screen. This
information will detail practice addresses updated by the run, as well as listing any
practices that could not be updated because no GP composition was defined within
NHAIS.
By completing this information, not only are you ensuring that your practice details are
complete – which is required for certain NHAIS analysis jobs – but you are also
ensuring the supply of up-to-date GP Practice data to the NSTS. NHS Trusts will be
encouraged to use the NSTS GP Practice data to enable them to forward clinical notes
direct to GPs rather than sending them via the local Health Authority, which will not
only benefit the wider NHS but should also reduce the workload for Health
Authorities.
Directions
1. Access the Additional Registration Utilities menu, display the menu page
showing the Check for Practices with no address info/Update from GP
address option, and enter the option number.
2. The display will then confirm that "This utility will identify practices that
have no address details. It will obtain an address from the first GP in the
current practice composition and give this address to the practice." You
will be invited to enter Y to confirm.
Either enter Y to run the utility or N to return to the menu screen, and
then press Return.
The display will scroll through the information, and then return
immediately to the Additional Registration Utilities menu. You can view
the information returned by this utility by using the scroll back buffer
available with your terminal emulator.
If a Practice address is populated from the address of a GP within the
Practice, this utility will return the Practice Code, GP Code, Address
Lines 1–4 and the Postcode.
If a Practice has no address details entered on the system, and there is no
GP information present from which address data can be copied, this utility
will return the message: "Practice GPs not defined."
