Service Diagnosis—Emergency Drive System
Connect vacuum gauge t o control diaphragm apply
side hose and check vacuum and start engine.
No vacuum.
Vacuum OK stop engine.
Check hose connecting glove box switch to control diaphragm
Hose loose or damaged.
Hose OK.
Replace hose.
A p p l y 4-10 inches vacuum to apply side of control diaphragm using
Vacuum Tester J-23738. Audible click should be heard as diaphragm
piston moves shift f o r k .
Connect vacuum gauge to glove box
switch and check vacuum through
switch.
No vacuum
through switch.
Vacuum through
switch OK.
Check hose connecting
switch to engine vacuum
source.
No click is heard.
Click is heard.
Replace control
diaphragm.
Recheck all vacuum hose con-
nections and hose c o n d i t i o n .
Recheck hose connections,
condition. Hoses may be
reversed at diaphragm.
Repair or replace hose(s).
Hose loose or damaged. Hose OK.
Repair or replace hose.
Replace glovebox switch.
