Issue 06 (2010-05-10)
You can create an space-optimized instant snapshot by running the command vxsnap [-g
diskgroup] make source=vol/newvol=snapvol\ /[cache=cacheobject]
[alloc=storage_attributes].
You can prepare a volume or volume set for an instant snapshot by running the command
vxsnap [-g diskgroup] prepare {volume|volset} [regionsize=size] [drl={yes|no|
sequential}] [ndcomirs=number] [attribute ...].
You can display the information about the snapshot associated with a volume by running
the commandvxsnap [-m] [-g diskgroup] print [snapvol]. The information includes the
synchronization progress (in percentage) of the snapshot or volume. If the volume is not
specified, the information about the snapshots of all volumes in related disk groups is
displayed.
You can reassociate an instant snapshot with the original volume or volume set and
synchronize the data in the instant snapshot with that in the original volume or volume set
by running the command vxsnap [-f] [-g diskgroup] reattach {snapvol|snapobject}
source={volume|volset} [nmirror=number].
By default, the command can associate all instant snapshots.
You can specify the number of associated instant snapshots by using the attribute
nmirror.
The instant snapshot that is being associated cannot be used by any program.
You can refresh an instant snapshot by running the command vxsnap [-g diskgroup] [-o
optarg[,optarg]...] refresh {snapvol|snapobject} source={volume|volset} [[{snapvol|
snapobject} source={volume|volset}]...] [syncing=yes|no]. Refreshing a snapshot means
that a snapshot is replaced with the copy of a parent volume at a specific time point. You
can run the command to refresh one or more snapshots and make them take effect at once.
If the source volume is not specified, the adjacent parent volume of the snapshot is used.
For the full-sized instant snapshot, the resynchronization is enabled by default.
You can specify the attribute syncing=no to disable resynchronization.
The space-optimized instant snapshot does not support the attribute syncing=no.
The instant snapshot is not available when it is being refreshed.
You can restore one or more volumes from a specified instant snapshot by running the
command vxsnap [-g diskgroup] [-o optarg[,optarg]...] restore {volume|volset} source=
{snapvol|snapobject} [{volume|volset} source={snapvol|snapobject}... [destroy=yes|
no] [syncing=yes|no] [nmirror=number].
If you specify destroy=yes, all full-sized instant snapshots are reassociated and snapshot
volumes are deleted.
For the space-optimized instant snapshot, you can create the contents of a specified
volume again by using cache data.
You can keep space-optimized instant snapshots unchanged by running the command
restore.
To ensure that the command is successfully run, the volume or snapshot volume that is
being restored cannot be used for any program. For example, you must uninstall all the
file systems configured on the two types of volumes mentioned above. You cannot
restore a volume from another unrelated volume.
Space-optimized instant snapshots do not support the attributes destroy and nmirror.
