Main error messages and their remedies

Cause
• The telephone dialing system
and telephone wiring system is
not set correctly.
• The telephone cord is not cor-
rectly connected.
• Communication was not possi-
ble due to a problem in the ma-
chine.
• Communication was not possi-
ble due to the condition of the
recipient/caller's fax machine.
All redial attempts failed because
either the recipient's line is busy or
there was no answer.
An e-mail message that cannot be
printed by this machine was re-
ceived. (For a file attachment in a
format other than TIFF-F)
When sending a fax, the size of
the image data exceeded the ca-
pacity of the memory.
When receiving e-mail, the size of
the image data exceeded the ca-
pacity of the memory.
When receiving a fax, the size of
the image data exceeded the ca-
pacity of the memory.
While receiving e-mail, the maxi-
mum number of files stored in the
memory was exceeded.
The receiver of the connected tel-
ephone has been picked up.
A fax error occurred while an op-
eration was being performed in
Copy mode.
An error occurred when connect-
ing to the server.
Remedy
• Check telephone dialing sys-
tem and telephone wiring sys-
tem, and then specify the
correct settings in Utility mode.
• Connect the telephone cord
correctly.
Press any key to check the details
of the error in the printed trans-
mission or reception report. Then,
check the communication set-
tings, and try communicating
again.
Check the condition of the recipi-
ent's line, and then try sending the
fax again.
Ask the sender to send a TIFF-F
file or text in the correct format.
• Retrieve the reception data
stored in the memory.
• Send the fax by direct trans-
mission.
Retrieve the reception data stored
in the memory.
Retrieve the reception data stored

Retrieve the reception data stored
in the memory.
Return the receiver of the con-
nected telephone to its cradle.
Press the [Fax] key.
If an error is displayed, perform
the appropriate remedy according

page 7-3.
Check the network settings. Try
communicating again and, if an
error is displayed, contact the net-
work administrator.
