Installing the Backup Battery & RTC Battery
To install the computer's backup battery and RTC battery, follow the steps below and refer to
Figures 4-26 and 4-27.
1. Connect the backup battery cable to its connector. Seat the backup battery so that the
cable end faces away from the connector. Fold the cable flat along the length of the battery
to prevent it from being pinched when you replace the protective metal plate. Use tape to
secure the backup battery in its rounded cavity on the protective metal plate (Figure 4-26).
2. Connect the RTC battery cable to its connector, then fold the cable in a loop so it lies flat
against the system board to prevent it from being pinched when you replace the protective
metal plate. Double-sided adhesive tape is applied to the underside of the RTC battery.
Stick the taped side to the system board (Figure 4-27).
3. Install the display assembly, HDD, status indicator panel, keyboard, top cover, optional
PCMCIA card, optional memory card and battery pack as described in Sections 4.9 through
4.2.
