4.2 Creating Backup Data for System
Recovery
After OS installation is complete, create backup data for system recovery, which
enables the system to be recovered if an error occurred.
After OS installation or changing the system configuration, make sure to perform this procedure to
create backup data.
Before turning on the server, connect a USB floppy disk drive. For details, refer to "Appendix C
External Floppy Disk Drive (USB) Notes on Usage" ( pg.227).

4.2.1 Windows Server 2008

After installing Windows Server 2008, back up the whole server configuration to a shared folder on
another server or media such as a DVD.
Windows Server Backup function
For Windows Server 2008, you can back up and restore the whole system by using the "Windows
Server Backup" function.
After installation, perform a full backup for the whole server configuration only once. After that, you can
specify to automatically perform incremental backup that stores only the data changed. Set or operate
it according to the operation configuration.
Windows Server backup does not support a tape device. When using a tape device, use software for
tape backup.
If setting up Windows Server 2008 Server Core, backup via the MMC console and Windows
PowerShell are not supported. Only command line (Wbadmin command) backup is supported.
