The size of the preview image depends on the screen resolution of your monitor:
Macintosh:

If no preview image is available when the Scan dialog is invoked, a black preview
area is displayed. Preview images are saved in the Nikon Scanner plug-in preferences
file, located in your preferences folder. If a preview was present when the plug-in was
last closed, it will appear the next time you open the plug-in. You can dispose of the
previous preview by clicking the R

Crop Rectangle

As seen in Figure 11.13, the preview window may also contain a crop rectangle.
The crop rectangle provides a graphical means of selecting the area desired for the final
scan. By adjusting the size and location of the crop rectangle you can see and select
exactly what image data will be included in the final scan. This selected scanning area is
contained within the crop rectangle.
Macintosh only: The entire preview area can be selected by holding down the "ð"
