General Information
Purpose and Use
The Model 5265MGSA Gel Strength Analyzer is used to determine the gel strength of well
cement slurries under HP/HT conditions in accordance with applicable API recommended
practices. The system includes the 5265MGSA and a Quizix Q5120 pump used to accurately
control sample pressure.
Description of Instrument
The gel strength of a given cement slurry is measured using an immersed paddle at rotational
speeds of 0.20 – 5.0 degrees/minute. The reaction torque on the paddle due to the shear
stress is measured using a load cell, measuring the torque on the motor. Gel Strength is
calibrated in units of lbf/100ft
Prior to gel strength measurement, under HP/HT conditions, the sample may be conditioned
at 150 rpm using a paddle. Other conditioning speeds may be used.
The system is operated using the Chandler 5270 software, providing motor control, data
acquisition, report generation, motor control, temperature control, and multiple-axis data
display options.
