Section 5 - Maintenance and Servicing

Note: Always disconnect the power connection prior to service.

Tools Required

• 5/8-inch wrench (supplied with instrument)
• Hex wrenches (supplied with instrument)
• Spanner wrench (supplied with instrument)
• Bench vise

Cleaning and Service Tips

• Clean the instrument thoroughly upon completion.
• Clean exterior surfaces as required using a mild surfactant and water.
• Verify that the thermocouple and pressure port in the top plug are not blocked or
partially blocked with cement.
• Lubricate the threads on the top plug periodically with lithium grease (or equivalent).
• After each test, pull the paddle, shaft, bearings, internal magnet from the top plug.
Thoroughly clean the components, verify that the ceramic bearings spin freely.
• Verify that the spacer above the top ceramic bearing is present, it must be dropped
into the top plug before inserting the paddle assembly.
• Replace the o-ring on the bottom baffle if it is no longer able to retain the paddle shaft
assembly in place.
• Verify that the high-pressure seal o-rings are not deformed. If so, replace them.
• After inserting the paddle assembly into the top plug, verify that the paddle spins
freely. Although the pressure vessel was designed using suitable materials and
techniques, due to the extreme pressure rating, it is imperative to monitor the
condition of the vessel and related components with a focus on safety. Any damage to
the vessel or related high-pressure components must be brought to the attention of
Chandler Engineering.
• Chandler Engineering recommends periodic re-inspection and testing of the pressure
vessel assembly to maintain the rated temperature and pressure ratings. Without re-
inspection and testing, the pressure rating of the vessel assembly must be de-rated as
a function of age, usage and condition in accordance with established vessel de-rating
schedules at Chandler Engineering. Chandler Engineering supports the design and
offers periodic vessel testing services and component replacement if/when required.
• Maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel.
