6.8 Possible failures in front driving axle
The list of possible failures of front driving axle and instructions for their troubleshooting
are shown in table 6.8.1.

When the rear wheels are skidding, the front axle does not engage automati-
cally if the tractor moves forward
The transfer case freewheel clutch
parts are worn out.
The clamping slots of the free-
wheel clutch outer race are soiled
with oil oxidation and part wear

The springs of the roller pressure
mechanism are deformed
The safety clutch in the intermedi-
ate bearing does not transmit the
required torque
The drive and driven disks of the
safety clutch are worn out.
The Belleville springs are weak-
ened or broken
The transfer case control rod has
an increased length
Noncompliance of pressure in front
and rear tires to the recommended
standards
Faulty toe-in of front wheels
Front axle is constantly forcedly
engaged because of broken or
skidding transfer case control
Increased noise and overheating in the main gear zone
Clearance in the main gear bear-
ings
Improper main gear engagement
Improper FDA operation mode.
The FDA operates in the forced
mode.
Improper wheel rotation limit angle
Pivot bearing got out of adjustment Check and adjust the axle load of the pivot bear-
Clearances in the steering link pins
and in rotation hydraulic cylinders
Replace the freewheel clutch
Remove the clutch and rinse its components
Remove the clutch and rinse its parts
Adjust the clutch to transmit the torque of 500-700
N·m by tightening the flange nut on the transfer
case side
Replace the disks
Replace the springs
Adjust the transfer case rod length
Increased wear and delaminating of front tires
To avoid faults maintain the pressure in front and
rear tires acc. to the recommended standards
Adjust toe-in of front wheels
Do the following:
- check the forcedly engaged FDA, eliminate the
fault;
- adjust the transfer case control mechanism
Adjust side clearance in the driving gear engage-
ment of main gear
Check and, if necessary, adjust gear engagement
acc. to tooth-contact;
Noise at wheel maximum rotation angle
Check the FDA drive engagement mode and set
the handle in Off or Automatic position.
Check and adjust the FDA reduction unit rotation
angle
Hammering in pivot while moving
ings
Hammering in FDA while abrupt wheel turning
Check and adjust
