The management module also enables you to download updates to
the software used by MSH Smart Modules. All Smart Repeater Modules
use the same software. New versions of the Smart Module software are
loaded to flash EPROM into an unused area of memory. At some time
in the future, you may find that an attempted download is greeted with
a 'Fail' message. In this case, you will need to download a complete
software image — for both management and Smart Modules. The
downloading of the software for the management module is a separate
operation from downloading the Smart Module software.
CAUTION: Following an upgrade of the management software, the
Smart Modules will adopt the configuration set by the hardware links.
When setting up the hardware links on all modules, you must ensure
that you provide a path between the TFTP server and Ethernet
backplane bus 1 so that you can download management and Smart
Module software. The most common causes of failure to download the
software are the port connected to the TFTP server is hard-linked as
disable-on-boot and the module carrying that port is hard-linked to an
Ethernet bus other than bus 1.
