Backup Ring State - Normal / Beacon / Not Available
These indicate the Operational State of the Backup Ring.
Normal - The ring is operating normally.
Beacon - There are beacon frames on the ring. This may indicate a
hardware fault on the ring, for instance a faulty connection, or a
faulty ring-station adapter. Use the Ring Statistics menu to
determine the severity of the problem (see
frames can also be generated by an incorrect speed setting, for
example a 4Mb ring-station on a 16Mb ring. Check the ring speed
switch settings on the ring-station and RingBuilder.
Not Available - MAC2 has not been installed on the RingBuilder
and so no information about the Backup Ring is available.
Ring-In State And Ring-Out State - Open / Wrapped
These indicate the state of the Ring-In and Ring-Out ports. For more
information on wrapping these ports refer to
Ring Section"
Ring Wrap State - Normal / Wrapped / Not Available
This field indicates whether the ring is operating normally or has
wrapped, providing that MAC2 is installed on the RingBuilder. The
message NOT AVAILABLE will be displayed if MAC2 has not been
installed. The ring will wrap automatically in response to a break in
the cable on the Ring-In or Ring-Out port of the RingBuilder,
providing the FAIL-SAFE mode is enabled. For more information see
"Extending the Local Ring Section"
CAUTION: It is important to rectify the cause of the ring wrapping
before a second problem causes the ring to fragment.
Ring Speed - 4Mbps / 16Mbps
This indicates the speed at which the RingBuilder and its associated
MAUs are operating. The speed is defined by hardware switches on
the RingBuilder Module. The speed of the ring cannot be changed
by management commands.
Ring-In Media and Ring-Out Media - STP
This indicates the type of cabling connected to the Ring-In and
Ring-Out ports of the RingBuilder.
