2.4.3 Island Frequencies

AT
FREQUENCIES FOR EACH ISLAND CIRCUIT.
IN THE
FREQUENCIES
SEPARATED BY INSULATED JOINTS. ON ADJACENT TRACKS, DO
NOT REPEAT ISLAND FREQUENCIES WITHIN 1500 FEET (457.2 M).
IF A SWITCH IS PRESENT IN THE ISLAND ADDITIONAL CIRCUITRY
MAY BE REQUIRED TO ENSURE THE SHUNT IS DETECTED THROUGH
ALL OF THE TRACK SECTIONS.
Use frequencies of 10.0 kHz and lower when the required island length is
over 200 feet (61.0 meters), or lumped ballast loading at the street is
anticipated.

2.4.4 Island Shunting Sensitivity

The island can be calibrated to respond to a shunting sensitivity of 0.12, 0.3, 0.4, or 0.5 ohms. A
hardwire shunt is used for calibration.
The island circuit shunting sensitivity adjustment procedure is described in
section 6.2.3.
Island track circuit calibration is generally performed using 0.12 ohm
shunting sensitivity. In an area where poor shunting is experienced or
anticipated, a minimum of 0.3-ohm shunting sensitivity is recommended.
In areas of passenger operation, a minimum of 0.3-ohm shunting sensitivity
is recommended.
