Using the Programmable Keys / Line Keys

There are eight Programmable Keys on the ECX 1000 digital telephone sets, 16 on the ECX 2000 digital
telephone set and 32 on the DSS. The keys on the digital telephone sets are pre-programmed as Line Keys.
Each Line Key is associated with a "Line", the first key with Line 1, etc. (provided the system has lines
equipped). Pressing Line Key 1 selects Line 1, returning a dial tone and allowing you to dial an external
telephone number. The Line Keys incorporate a light, which is lit on all digital telephone sets when the
associated Line is selected. The light is green on the digital telephone set using the Line and red on all other
digital telephone sets. When a call on a line is put on hold the associated Line Key light flashes on all
digital telephone sets, (unless the System Programming is changed from the default as detailed on page 89).
By default, Programmable Keys select available lines on the system. Should you wish to allocate
alternative functions to these keys, this can be facilitated using Key Programming. (See page 53.)
Using the Speaker Phone Key
You can use the Speaker Phone Key to have a conversation without having to lift the Handset. Press the
Speaker Phone Key to go off-hook, as if the Handset were lifted with the digital telephone set speaker and
microphone replacing the Handset. Pressing the key again goes back on-hook, as if the Handset were
replaced.
You may also use the digital telephone set with a headset. (See: Using your digital telephone set with a
headset on Page 33.)
The Speaker Phone Key has a red light, which is lit whenever the Speaker Phone Key has been pressed to
go off-hook or to turn on the speaker.
Note: Pressing the Speaker Phone Key at any time during programming exits the programming menus and
returns the display to the Idle Menu.
Using the Volume Key:
·
To adjust the speaker volume, press the Volume Key when operating in Speaker Phone Mode
·
To adjust the digital telephone set receiver volume, press the
Mode.
·
To adjust the ringing volume, press the Volume Key when the digital telephone set is ringing.
Note: The volume level increases/decreases by one step for every press of the Volume Key.
Using the Mute Key:
The Mute Key can be pressed when you are using the Handset or in Speaker Phone Mode. When pressed,
the other person on the call cannot hear you. The Mute Key has a red light, which is lit when Mute is
active.
The Ringing / Message Waiting Light:
There is a red light on the top right-hand corner of the digital telephone set. This light flashes when there is
an incoming call. It also lights up when a voice message has been left in your Voice Mail box.
