Setting the IP Address for a Manually Added Device

When a device is manually added to the map, it does not have an IP
address associated with it. 3Com Network Director lets you enter an IP
address for that device.
To specify the IP address for a manually added device:
1 Click on the icon for the device in the 3Com Network Director map to
select it.
2 Select the Device > Properties menu option to launch the Properties
dialog box.
3 Click on the Addresses tab. This displays the tab as shown in
4 Click on the Assign button and enter the IP address for that device in the
Add IP Address dialog box, then click OK.
Warning: The IP address must be a valid address, must be within the
range allowed for the subnet the device was added to, and must not be
already used by another device; otherwise a warning message is
displayed.
5 3Com Network Director then tries to contact the device using the IP
address you specified. If the IP address does not respond, the dialog box
shown in
Figure 114
or Yes to use the IP address you specified.
6 Click on OK in the Properties dialog box to validate your changes.
The IP information is now set and the device is now recognized by 3Com
Network Director as a valid device.
When the changes are validated, 3Com Network Director attempts to
automatically recognize the type of the device. As a result, the icon
representing the added device on the map might change to better reflect
the actual type recognized.
