Mic amp - preliminary input processing
Console digital trim is situated in the GUI channel strip in each input bay (default). However,
pressing the gain swap button swaps the functions of GUI input fast strip gain control and GUI
channel strip gain control. When 'swapped', analogue step gain controls are in the input fast strips
and gain trim controls are in the mic-amp section of the GUI channel strip.
1
TALK switch connects talk mic and/or tone and
noise generators to the input channel.
2
Console digital trim control knob applies
continuous trim adjustment of the input signal level
from –20dB to +20dB. Gives a further 40dB of fine
adjustment (DSP) on top of the remote amplifier gain
setting.
3
Quick access button selects mic amp section to
GUI input channel strip and highlights GUI input fast
strip. Button illuminates to aid navigation back at the
input fast strip after using the GUI detail area. A
second press clears the screen selection, extinguishes
LED and blanks GUI input channel strip. Pressing any
other quick access button in the input fast zone,
touching another control knob or pressing another
button in the GUI detail area overrides the current
selection.
4
phase switch applies a 180° inversion of the
input signal polarity within the input amplifier, such
that channel signal will have opposite polarity to the
input signal. Used to correct input signal phase
problems when trying to sum signals that are 180° out
of phase.

when using a mic on both the top and bottom of a
snare drum. Ordinarily, the two mics would be out of
phase - causing cancellation when the console sums
the two signals into the output. Reversing the phase
of one signal causes the mics to have the same phase,
thus avoiding cancellation
5
48V switch connects 48 volts of phantom power
to both XLR mic input channel connectors. Suitable
for a condenser microphone or DI box.
6
gain swap button changes stage box section
(item 9) in GUI input channel strip with analogue step
gain control section (item 8) in the input fast strip,
and vice versa.
7
30Hz (filter) subsonic filter switch acts on remote
amplifier (mic splitter) to remove very low frequencies
in audio signal (usually caused by noise on stage).
This avoids wasting valuable headroom trying to
digitise it.
