Muting

Muting
Muting is generally used for backstage mics, guitar switchover etc. The channel mutes
turn off outputs from the channel. See Appendix A "Functional Block Diagrams" for
which outputs are affected when channel mute is active. Channel mutes can be
activated by:
• Local press.
• Auto-mutes (mute groups/control groups) - see "Auto-mute groups" on page 118.
• VCAs - see "VCA/POP groups" on page 92.
• Scene recall (automation) - see Chapter 12 "Automation" on page 237.
• SIP, which uses the control centre's master outputs for solo A material by muting
input channels currently soloed to the solo A bus. For SIP muting, channels must be
input channels set up to solo the solo A bus.
All of the above mute activation methods, except VCAs, mute channel outputs and
update the channel mute status indicator.
Figure 4: Control methods, interactions and corresponding state of channel mute
Note:
In Figure 4, all of the transitions between states, with the exception of State 1 to
State 0 "If not SIP muted", are events. The "If not SIP muted" transition is not an
event, it happens as soon as the indicated test condition ("If not SIP muted") is true.
Also, "Mute on" and "Mute off" refer to mute activations and deactivations using the
local press method (the mute button on the channel); SIP mutes only apply to input
channels (the "If not SIP muted" exit condition from State 1 is always true for other
channel types); and an "Auto mute on" and "Auto mute off" are achievable in several
different ways.
